30 more years of Penguins hockey.

The penguins finally reached a deal that will secure their stay in Pittsburgh for 30 more years. Was there ever any doubt? With Mario Lemieux at the helm, I found it hard to believe that he was even remotely considering a move to Kansas City. This most likely means that he was using the team as a barganing chip to get a sweeter deal. A part of me was saying "Take your team and shove it up your ass!"....but then there's the hockey fan in me, and he's damn happy that the deal got done.

This brings us to another point. In 1991, there was perhaps the greatest collection of talent ever assembled on a hockey rink. Mario Lemieux, Jamir Jagr, Tom Barasso, Keven Stevens, a couple of defensemen named samuelson, and those were just the noteworthy's. That team steamrolled its way to back-to-back stanley cup championships. Those were exciting times in Pittsburgh. A couple years later, the steelers would go on to loose a superbowl. Who cares, I was a hockey fan.

Watching the Penguins defeat the buffalo sabres last night(the #1 team in the league), and then knowing that they beat the devils tonight(the #1 team in our conference), they have secured the #4(out of 8) playoff seed entering the playoffs. The Pens haven't been in the playoffs in quite some time.

The point is, back in 1991, we didn't have a feeling. We knew the pens were good, but we wouldn't know how good until 2 years later. I believe that the team that is on the ice right now, just might be better than the 1991 penguins. Sidney Crosby is freaking sick. He's got skills coming out his ass. He's better than lemieux, better than gretsky, and he's only freaking 19 years old. There is so much talent on this Pens team, that I wouldn't be surprised to see a stanley cup within the next 2 years.
