300
I've waited for the 300 for a while now. I went to see it today. Caught the DLP show, which in my opinion is the only way to see a movie anymore. 300 may be the best movie that I've ever seen. Sure, there was lots of blood and decapitation and limbs flying around, but there was a deep plot that involved...uh nevermind, there was blood and limbs and decapitations and a whole bunch of cheesy lines like "then we'll fight in the shade!".
3 things,
1: tears of the sun no longer holds the mantle as the best movie about being outmanned, and out gunned and facing impossible odds.
2: The wolf from the neverending story is no longer the scariest wolf to ever grace a movie screen.
3: Bruce Willis, and Sean Connery, would both soil their pants if Gerard Butler looked at them the wrong way.

Roughly speaking, that is a true story. The Spartans did hold that pass along with 8,000 other Greek soldiers from other city states.
However, the Spartans sent the others away when they realized that the Persians had outflanked them. And they stood to the last man.
Go to the movie store and pick up the original, "300 Spartans" made back in the fifties. It was a good also.
On rule of thumb if you life in ancient Greece, dont mess with the Spartans. There weren't many of them, but they would kick your ass.
There was a special on the history channel that covered that battle. They went over the differences in armor and weaponry that gave the Greeks an advantage. Good stuff.
